Edmonton / St. Albert Magic: “Archenemy” Release Event: July 18, 2010 At 6 PM

Archenemy

A New Way To Play Multiplayer Magic!

For those without Power Nine or amazing deck building skills, “Archenemy” is here for you!

Turn your normal “fun” deck into a deck with the power and resources to crush an entire table of opponents! How is that possible? Using the new “Schemes” cards to give your deck the advantage it needs to win!

Our Release Event starts at 6 PM on Friday, June 18, 2010! We will NOT be keeping track of wins or losses, this is a casual event (WOTC calls it “Open Gaming“). First 20 people to play will receive a special promo Scheme card called “Plots That Span Centuries” so register early!

Each Archenemy deck is priced at $20 including tax, save $5 if you buy all four; it’s only $75!

Regards,

iRoy

WarHammer 40K Events Update:

img_0480.jpg

The people have spoken and want the following changes:

*Scenarios ftw: we will use 3 scenarios at our events- determined randomly at the start of each round

*Asymmetrical Maps: this was a common complaint; in the past, I had setup all of our maps so that they would have the same basic terrain on both sides- so that there would be no clear advantage playing on either side. However, an advantage is exactly what everyone wants! Choosing which side you play on offers more strategy and also varies gameplay.

*Assigned Seating: this is an issue that I thought would always resolve itself. I assumed that people would be able to play on whichever map that they wanted. I had not anticipated that there would be arguments or people “camping” specific maps that favored their army more than their opponents. So, from hereonin we’ll assign pairings to a specific map.

*Longer Round Time: when only 3 pairings can complete a round in an entire event, then there’s a problem. We’re adding 15 minutes to the clock for 1000 point armies: so, players will have 75 minutes to play a 1000 point game rather than 60 minutes.

Now it’s my turn:

*Be More Careful/Considerate Of Our Terrain: it may not look like much, but it’s all we have to play with so don’t throw, lean on, tap or otherwise try to break our terrain. I know it’s not something that people are doing deliberately, but come on people, do you really have to tap your favourite song on our palm trees/cacti?

*Listen When I Make Announcements: this is a common courtesy- just listen to what I have to say and then you can go and play in our event. And in all fairness, how long do you think my announcements take: 45 seconds? A minute?

Like/dislike this post? I’m interested in your feedback! Message me on FaceBook or send me an e-mail!

Special thanks to Mike, Garnett, Dan and John for offering their input on our previous WarHammer 40K events!

Magic: “Duels Of The Planeswalkers” Decks Now Available!

picture-139.jpg

Fan of the XboX Live “Duel Of The Planeswalkers” game?

Well, the good folks at Wizards Of The Coast are too! They’ve just released the “Duels Of the Planeswalkers” decks! Each deck is “inspired” by a particular planeswalker, so that planeswalker won’t be in the deck unfortunately. But each deck has 4 rares + 1 foil rare! Best of all, there’s a Magic 2010 booster pack inside each deck!

These decks are $13 each or you can buy all five decks for $60 (save $5)!

Upcoming WarHammer 40K Events:

Warhammer 40K

Just working ahead and putting together the July Calendar (I know, I know- I’ll actually have soemthing done in advance for once!) and was wondering what kind of events you want to try in July. So far, I have a few different options:

* Apocalypse: 10,000 points per side with a restriction of one on all things far too powerful like BaneBlades

*Doubles: Teams of 2 vs teams of 2. We’re looking at small point armies; either 500 or 1000 per person (not per team)

*Multiplayer Free-For-All: Most likely another smaller build just so the game can finish within a realistic timeframe and most likely a limit of 4 people to a table

So, what do you think? Voice your opinion on FaceBook (search for thground@telusplanet.net) or send me an e-mail (thground@telusplanet.net)! Or if you have another option, by all means, let me know.

Reagrds,

iRoy
