The Value Of A Virtual Item?

Whoever said that “Beauty is in the eye of the beholder” should be playing World Of Warcraft!

Last week, Lillian purchased a box of boosters of “Fires Of Outland” and funny thing: she pulled a Loot card, Spectral Tiger (the one pictured up top). Loot cards are ultra rares that have a scratch area on the face of the card- the scratch area has a special redemption code that you can use to get exclusive ingame (virtual) items for the World of Warcraft computer game. The odds of pulling a loot card in a booster pack are approximately 1:96 packs (or roughly 1 in 4 booster boxes). Now, I’ve openned about 8 boxes (of Heroes Of Azeroth, Dark Portal, and Fires Of Outland total) and I have not pulled a single loot card, yet Corey (one of the regular youngsters) has pulled 5- that’s right FIVE! Not all loot cards are all that expensive- Lando Longshot (loot) doesn’t really match up to our good friend the Spectral Tiger (loot) dollar-wise.

Guess this just begs the question: are virtual items really worth all that much? Now, if you played the game, I dunno maybe four hours every day, then sure- $425 US for a new toy may just be worth it. I’m sure most of the people that come by the store here have spent at least that much on their computers or their gaming consoles (XBOX 360, PS3. Wii, etc), so why not pay that much for an ingame item?

Anyways, I’m rambling… Congrats to Lillian on her great pull and congrats to Corey on all of his great pulls!

Most. Addictive Flash Game. Ever.

WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING WARNING

** ADDICTIVE GAME **

http://www.handdrawngames.com/DesktopTD/game.asp

This is quite possibly the most addictive game I’ve ever played: “Desktop Tower Defense” is so simple, yet so strategic. Your goal: kill all of the “creeps” that the computer sends with “towers“. You get $ for each creep that you can kill and use the money to build more towers or upgrade the towers you have in play already. Watch out though, the computer will change creeps as the game goes on- one wave may be “flying” and the next may be “fast“.

Have fun and good luck =)

If you’re looking for a challenge, try “10K Gold” under the “Fun” tab.

Check out the YouTube videos here for game tips:

Cosmic Game Balance:

Everyone wishes that they’d win the lottery. In gamer terms, Jon And David did just that. Last week, they each purchased a display of WoW CCG boosters here and got… An ultra rare (an Epic card) in every pack! Normally, there would be two, maybe three, Epic cards in a display- they each got 24! Congrats, guys!On a different note, Jeremy purchased some “10th Edition” Magic and got… A basic land in place of the rare in each of his packs! Not to worry though, we replaced all of his “defective” packs with packs that have rares- I guess every manufacturing company has some failure/defect rate, even Wizards Of The Coast (WOTC).

So, two defective products in one week: one positive (Jon and David) and the other not so positive (Jeremy). If something like this has happened to you, tell us about it!

iRoy

Special thank you to Jon P and David G for making this website possible.

I’m open to any feedback/suggestion that you may have to make this site better or more user-friendly to you; just let me know. I think having a forums section will be our next step, but that will take a bit more time to setup. Just drop by the store or send me an e-mail at thground@telusplanet.net

Hope to hear from everyone!
