Chuck Norris approved!

Just over 2 weeks ago, we had some problems with our debit/credit card machine, but now I am proud to report those problems are now long behind us!

Our new machine is now connected to our cable modem (instead of landline or phone) and processes transactions as fast as or faster than the Flash! Another sizeable advantage is the new machine won’t cut out our phone line when in use; I know: Win-Win!

So, to reiterate our status: our new debit/credit card machine is working better than ever before. We had a small problems over two weeks ago, but that has long been dealt with (thanks to Peter and Shaw for their computer/network/internet) expertise!

It’s been a struggle.

We’ve finally changes internet service providers and got a brand, spanking new e-mail address:

Please do not use our older e-mail address (thground@telusplanet.net or the one that Telus changed us to without any notice es17591@telsuplanet.net).

In the pastcouple weeks, we’ve had our account erased and reset by Telus even after phoning and making sure our account would stay active after switching. So if you’ve sent me an e-mail and I haven’t responded, please try again using the new e-mail address.

Thanks again for your patience and understanding and thanks to all who were able to help with this change.

Keep in mind this is just the first step for us in updating the tech side of our business. Please watch for more changes coming soon.

Sometimes I wish real life were a comicbook.

In comics, your favourite characters ALWAYS come back to life and live on to face new challenges and go on cool adventures. Unfortunately, real life is nothing like a comicbook.

This morning, Andy Ferguson passed away. He had a very promising career in Radio/Tv broadcasting; every week he hosted a radio talk show with his friend Marc Majeau on the NAIT website (NR92). He loved sports and he loved comics: he was enjoying the new DC universe reboot and couldn’t wait to see what was going to happen to Aquaman and Green Lantern.

Still hard to believe that he’s gone.

Thanks to Marc for letting me know what happened. My condolences go out to Andy’s family and friends.

Hello and Happy Halloween!

Hope everyone had fun at our third Steamroller event held just this past Saturday, October 29!

We had 20 people show up and chuck dice; up from 16 (Steamroller 2: August 6) and tieing our first Steamroller from May 28! In addition to all of the vets, we had several new people show up and play! If you’re looking for a play group in the Edmonton area, you’re welcome to come by and check us out! Our next event, aptly named “Steamroller 4” is slated for Saturday, November 26 at 12 noon!

A couple other important parts of this game are: Sportsmanship and the Hobby Side. Sportsmanship speaks for itself! It is something that we place a very high emphasis on here in Steamroller and in all of our events for all games. On the Hobby Side, we have a vote for Best Painted Army. For those who participated, it was very easy to see that there were two players that embodied all 3 areas o this game (Hobby Side, Sportsmanship, and Game Play): please note how many votes and how well Gord W and Tyler W did in this event! Great job, you two!

“Best Painted Army” this time around was a landslide! We set a new record: Tyler W received 11 out of 20 votes (55%)! Here’s the breakdown:

Sorry to report that we will not be bale to process any Debit / Credit transactions until Tuesday, October 25. I know this is a horrible inconvenience, but this is just one step towards improving the overall service that we can provide.

We have been having nothing but problems with Telus in the last few months (latest salvo in this ongoing debacle? Telus decided to change my e-mail user name, without informing me of the change; that’s right how am I supposed to access/respond to emails without the correct username? Ask Telus). Hope everyone hasa great Thanksgiving!

Reminder that we’re closed on Monday, October 10, 2011 (we are actually closed every Monday!).

Our comic shipment should be 24 hours late this week due to the holidays, so I expect to have everything sorted and ready for Thursday, October 13 by 12 noon! Our Innistrad restock arrives this Tuesday, October 11 and should be ready by 4 PM.

We were fortunate enough to be able to sign up for and host Magic Celebration!

Magic Celebration is a FREE event in which we will host a Mini Master (also known as Pack War) tournament! Each entrant is given one FREE booster of Magic 2012 and 3 of each Basic Land (which I will provide for you) which they use to make their deck. Each time a player wins a Match (not each time a player wins a game), I will give them another Magic 2012 booster pack!

We only have a few more open spots left in our first event, but I would like to run as many as of these as possible on Saturday.

1. Format:
*FREE to enter
*Mini Master: Sealed Magic 2012
*4 Rounds Of Swiss Style play (where players are paired up randomly in round one, and then paired up against other players who have the same amount of points)
*Each Round Is Best 2 Out Of 3 and 50 Minutes Long

• When time runs out, 5 additional turns will be given starting with the active player
  • If time runs out and neither player is able to defeat the other:
    • If this was the 2nd game, then the player that won the first game, wins the Match
    • If this was the 3rd game, the Match ends in a draw

2. Deck Construction:

*At the start of the event, each player will be given one booster of Magic 2012 and three of each Basic Land (Island, Mountain, Swamp, Plains, Forest) which will be their deck. No changes will be permitted at this point. So: 1 pack + 3 of each Basic Land = Deck
* Whenever a player wins a Match, they will be awarded one FREE Magic 2012 booster, at which time, they will be given 10 minutes to make changes to their deck. They may add/remove Basic Lands (which I will provide) so that their new deck must be at least 40 cards minimum.

3. Prizes:
*2 separate Magic 2012 boosters will be awarded at Random at the end of the event

*Also have several online keys for Xbox 360, PS3 and Steam(?) that give item special Duels Of The Planewalkers items. 

4. Additional Flights:

*We have a total of 216 packs to give out, so I would like to use that to run as many events as possible. If all things remain constant, we should have at least 32 people on Saturday at 1 PM and hopefully we will be able to run 2 of these events (not necessarily in the same day- depends on attendence)

5. Future Events:

*Don’t forget the Innistrad Prerelease is coming right up:

• Innistrad Midnight Prerelease: Friday, September 23 at 11:59 PM
• Innistrad Prerelease Day 1: Saturday, September 24 at 1 PM
• Innistrad Prerelease Day 2: Sunday, September 25 at 1 PM
• Innistrad Midnight Launch: Thursday, September 29 at 11:59 PM
• Innistrad Launch: Friday, September 30 at 6 PM
