What 150 Points Of “Warmachine” Looks Like

lost-044.jpg

(First off, apologies for the blurry phone pictures. Got a new camera for Christmas courtesy of the Rudolphs (Thanks, guys!) that I still haven’t setup, but I will get ready for next week!)

150 points of Warmachine is a sight to be seen. We were using a 4 foot by 6 foot game board provided by Kevin G (Thanks, Kevin!) and it was quite literally full! I watched as Mischa and Ivan set up their forces… and then continue to set up their forces. Mischa had gone through six small boxes of Protectorate Of Menoth, while Ivan pulled out tray after tray of Trollblood figures. This battle was incredible- I mean even after a few hours of playing there were still tons of figures on the battlefield! I guess I should expect no less from two seasoned veterans like Ivan and Mischa; these two brothers are just amazing! Their forces are almost all completely painted- and painted quite well I should say! Their gameplay was just outstanding- take a bow you two! Great game to watch!

For those of you like myself who haven’t been initiated into the game/”way of life” that is Warmachine, what I’m going to do is describe this particular game by comparing it to another game called Warhammer 40K and then explain it in terms of “time taken to play“. So,  150 points of Warmachine is pretty close to to an Apocalypse game- well, as close as we’ve had here anyways (that’ll change in March 2011 when we’ll host Apocalypse!). An Apocalypse game is a 40K game using 4000 or more points per side, which is enormous- to give you perspective, a normal 40k tournament army is roughly 1850 or 2000 points worth of figures- so an Apocalypse game can be more than twice the number of figs as a tournament army. Scary!

If you’re wondering how long it took to play out, well since this was a league game for our “Shattered Grounds: Windless Wastes” league it had to end at 6 PM at which there was no victor. This game could’ve gone on for a few more hours in my opinion. At 6 PM there were still lots of figs on the table. In 5 hours of gameplay, neither side was able to vanquish the other. I guess we’ll have to wait until next week, when these two meet again to play in our league!

iRoy

“Post”release OR “Pre”release?

Question mark

Couple of the regulars remarked about this on the weekend.

They asked, “Hey, Roy- isn’t “Prerelease 4 more of a Postrelease than a Prerelease?”

Good question.

You know, I kinda like the sound of it too- it’s catchy!

“Postrelease 4” all the facts and details found here: http://www.thundergroundcomics.com/?page_id=254

Thanks to Chris and Preston for their insight on the matter!

What’s The Next Magic Set Going To Be Called?

mirrodinpure_newphyrexia.jpg

Kinda wishing I had a crystal ball that I could look into to see what’s coming up for Magic.

Looks like WOTC is keeping things tightly under wraps- even the name of the next set! Will it be called “New Phyrexia” or “Mirrodin Pure“? “New Phyrexia” has sucha nice ring to it, don’t you think?

Hopefully, I will have more info for you when they send out their Game Day kits (Saturday, March 5 at 1 PM)! Until then, you guys better hold off on getting “Mirrodin Pure” tattoos…

“Mirrodin Besieged” Prerelease Take 4?

Mirrodin Besieged

As you probably know, I had a mild bout of food poisoning at our Saturday Prerelease for “Mirrodin Besieged“! As a result, we weren’t able to host the normal booster drafts/side events that we would normally host and now I have approx 5 booster boxes of the limited printing of Prerelease Faction packs.

What I would like to do is run another Prerelease at the end of the month, in effect, this would be our forth Prerelease for “Mirrodin Besieged” (1. Midnight Prerelease, 2. Prerelease Day 1 Saturday and 3. Prerelease Day 2 Sunday). So, if you missed any and/or all of those events, then Prerelease 4 is perfect for you!

What I need is at least 8 people to come in and prepay for a Prerelease on Saturday, February 26, 2011 at 1 PM! Just follow the side navigation link for all the details!

http://www.thundergroundcomics.com/?page_id=254

Don’t want to play in the Prerelease but want the faction packs? I’m selling them here in the store too! Phone or drop by for pricing!

New “Magic” Players Welcome Every Wednesday, Friday, Saturday!

n00b

With the release of “Mirrodin Besieged“, we’ve seen an influx of new players! If you ever wanted to try the game, you’re welcome to drop by at any of Magic event days to meet people, trade, or even learn how to play!

If you wanted to try the game before you make a purchase, the good people at Wizards Of The Coast (WOTC) have sent me sample decks, which contain no rare cards but are perfect for new people to learn to game with. I can give these away for free, but I will have to limit them, since I only have a few left.

Warmachine + Hordes = Fun Times!

Warmachine

After 4 demos run once a month for the past 4 months, we’ve jumped into the “Iron Kingdoms” World of  Privateer Press!

Warmachine” is a tabletop miniature wargame where players use Warcasters to harness the power of large, armored War Jacks (walking, steam-powered tanks! In GW terms, they would be very close to a dreadnought.)! If you’re a fan of things steampunk, then this is the game for you! For those of you who are fascinated by large, terrifying War Beasts (like giant werewolves or fire breathing dragons), then Privateer Press has something for you too; it’s there companion game to Warmachine, called “Hordes“!

Please feel free to drop by any Saturday and play in our events! Starting Saturday, February 12 at 1 PM we’ll be hosting “Shattered Grounds” (provided our kits arrive in time), which is a league for Warmachine and Hordes!

iRoy

The Magic Prerelease That Almost Killed Me!

Prerelease

Honestly there’s not too much I remember between 3 or 4 PM and 8 PM that night.

I can say we were busy and everything was going well until the breakfast meal I had earlier in the day really came back to haunt me. My stomach felt like it was tied in a knot and I had a hard time standing because I was in so much pain. It was bad.

The good news? Come 8 PM and after drinking half a Canada Dry, I puked (literally jets of vomit) in the first round of our booster draft- fortunately, I wasn’t playing or near any of the players. Now, I’m really not trying to gross you out or play for your sympathy, what I am trying to do is explain what happened to me- I was in a lot of pain and had little to no energy. So, if you were here that day and thought I wasn’t well- I really wasn’t. Food poisoning is a terrible, terrible thing.

And here we are at the “Mirrodin Besieged” Prerelease Day 2 and I am almost at 80% and looking forward to the “Mirrodin Besieged” Launch this Friday, February 4 at 6 PM!

Special thank you to David A, Preston M, James B, and Chase L for their invaluable help! I was clearly not well, and these fine gentlemen stepped up and helped me in my time of greatest need. Thank you!

iRoy
